However, the transducers at the ends of the signal chain remain the main source of nonlinearity in reproduced sound. This committee serves as a focal point for information on new theories and techniques in microphone transducer technology and application.

Despite efforts of the IEC and other standards bodies, microphone manufacturers have not adopted a standard method for measuring microphone performance and presenting these specifications to their customers. In conjunction with AES Standards Committee Working Group SC-04-04 on Microphone Characterization, we are attempting to develop and refine the interface between microphone maker and (potential) user, so that the user can have a clearer idea of the microphone performance characteristics that the maker intends.
