Meeting Topic: Special Spacial Breakout Session
Moderator Name: Leon Merkel
Speaker Name: Tommi Deppisch, Valerian Drack, Michael Romanov
Other business or activities at the meeting:
Since over a decade, the AES Student Section Graz organizes Breakout Sessions. In these, students have the chance to present interesting mixes to a broad community of other audio engineering students and get feedback. As Graz is a hotspot for immersive audio, we also organized here a Breakout Session dedicated to this topic.
As many freschmen who are not familiar with the Ambisoncs theory for immersive audio production attended, Tommi Deppisch briefly explained the basic ideas and principles.
The first piece was presented by Valerian Drack, who created and recorded an installation in an old salt mine. This piece was created especially for compact spherical loudspeaker arrays like the IKO. He also showed a production using spacializted urban sounds, where he was involved in the technical production.
In the second part, our section's former chair Michael Romanov presented a electronic production using the loudspeaker hemisphere. He spacialized, in cooperation with the original producer, in several days the pieces for large 3D audio reinforcement systems.
Thanks to all presenters as well as the IEM for providing the room and Franz Zotter for helping us setting up the system. We are looking forward to a new edition as soon as possible!
